How To Make Whipped Coffee for a Sweeter Taste

You’ve probably encountered whipped coffee (or “dalgona coffee”) on your search for the perfect drink. The internet has gone absolutely nuts over this simple yet incredible-looking sweet treat. Whether you saw it on TikTok or Instagram, it’s obvious that people are talking about whipped coffee now more than ever.

You may be wondering: “What is this fancy coffee drink, and how can I get in on the trend?” Don’t worry — we’ve got you covered.

Here’s everything you’ll need to know about this perfect whipped coffee with a perfectly sweet taste.

What Is Whipped Coffee?

So, what’s the deal with whipped coffee? Whipped coffee really took off during the pandemic, when whipping up a batch at home became a viral quarantine trend.

Sometimes called “dalgona coffee” thanks to its similarity to the sugary Korean candy of the same name, whipped coffee is a mixture of instant coffee powder, sugar, and water. It can be enjoyed hot with steamed milk or cold over ice, so you can get your fix year-round.

Here’s the problem: Instant coffee powder isn’t very good. If you want a whipped coffee that’s easy to make and delicious to drink, then we’ve got an alternative for you.

By substituting instant coffee powder for coffee concentrate like Javy Coffee’s Caramel Cream, you can create the whipped coffee concoction of your dreams!

Why Use Coffee Concentrate?

Coffee concentrate is the new big thing in the world of coffee, and for good reason! It’s the fastest, easiest, and most convenient way to get your daily cup of Joe (or two… or three).

For those of you who are new to coffee concentrate, this little marvel is exactly what it sounds like: concentrated coffee.

Here at Javy, we grind down 100% natural arabica beans and put them through an extensive extraction process using cold, pure water. The end result is a powerful and highly concentrated bottle of coffee.

Typically, you can create a cup of cold brew by just adding a drop or two of our tasty concentrate into a mug of milk or water — with your favorite creamer, toppings, or flavors, of course. If you feel like shaking things up a little, you can use coffee concentrate in tons of exciting new recipes, like whipped coffee.

Where Does Whipped Coffee Come From?

Whipped coffee might be all the rage today, but its roots go back to the late-90s when a Macanese shipwright named Leong Kam Hon created it after a request from a tourist couple.

Recently though, it gained popularity thanks to a Korean TV show called Pyunstorang. An actor on the show named Jung Il-woo compared Hon’s whipped coffee to the Korean honeycomb toffee dalgona.

Since then, TikTok brought the drink into fashion as a must-have quarantine snack while everyone was stuck at home. Thousands of people have made different variations and styles of their own dalgona coffee — and now, it’s your turn!

How To Make Whipped Coffee

Here are some of our favorite delicious sweet whipped coffee recipes that will completely change your morning routine.

Dalgona Coffee With Pumpkin Spice and Caramel

It may not be fall just yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in your pumpkin spice craving a little bit early with this pumpkin and caramel dalgona coffee!

Here’s what you’ll need to get the ball rolling:

  • 2 tablespoons of caramel
  • 2 Javy caramel teaspoons
  • 1 tablespoon cold water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • Approximately 1 cup of whole milk, depending on glass size
  • Ice (optional)
  • Start off by pouring your caramel into the bottom of a mid-sized drinking glass. You can fill your cup with ice if you want this on the colder side.

Next comes the milk, and lots of it! This isn’t an exact science, but we recommend pouring about one cup of milk into your glass. As long as you have an inch and a half of space left, you should be good to go.

Put that aside, and begin the next phase of this operation: the coffee mixture! Start by combining your sugar, cold water, pumpkin pie spice, and coffee concentrate in a reasonably sized mixing jar. Now, it’s whisk time!

It shouldn’t take too long for your concoction to become nice and thick. You’re looking for a whipped and creamy consistency here with firm peaks of flavor. Once it’s ready, pour that delicious foam into your cup of milk.

Finish off by sprinkling some extra pumpkin spice on top. Congrats! You’ve made a mouthwatering beverage that’ll make it feel like fall came early.

    Maple Goodness Whipped Coffee

This insanely scrumptious recipe combines the sweet vanilla flavors of our famous French Vanilla Coffee Concentrate with the hearty northern taste of maple syrup.

Here are some of the key ingredients you’ll need:

  • 2 tablespoons of Javy vanilla concentrate
  • 2 tablespoons of pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons boiling hot water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup of milk or milk alternative
  • Start by mixing the vanilla coffee concentrate, maple syrup, and boiling hot water together in a bowl for a few minutes using a hand mixer. Make sure all of the ingredients are evenly spread to ensure the flavors are combined.

Next, pour that paste into a cup and add in your milk (or milk substitute — we’re partial to oat milk) along with ice and sugar before serving! This is a simple and delightful hot whipped coffee for any occasion.

Whipped Coffee with Honey and Almond Milk

Our last recipe is a special blend that embraces the subtle sweetness of honey with the unique taste of almond milk, all brought together with our signature Mocha Coffee Concentrate.

Here are all the ingredients you’ll need for this incredible drink:

  • 2 tablespoons Javy mocha concentrate
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons boiling water
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • Start this one off by getting a big mixing bowl and combining together your mocha concentrate, honey, and hot water together with your hand mixer. Once it’s smooth and glossy, take that combination and set it aside while you prepare the milk.

Get a tall glass and fill it up with your almond milk of choice (if you can, try your hand at homemade almond milk). Finally, scoop those stiff peaks of whipped coffee onto the milk for a picture-perfect drink.

    Ensuring Perfection

There’s no denying how delicious whipped coffee can be, but it may take some trial and error to find the perfect combination of each ingredient to suit your needs. Here are some suggestions if you want to make tweaks while retaining the spirit of the drink.

If the coffee flavor is coming on a bit too strong, don’t be afraid to throw in more milk or sugar to balance things out! Coffee and milk go together like two peas in a pod.

If you feel like your whipped coffee isn’t looking all that “whipped” or fluffy, that means you haven’t mixed it enough! Try again, and really focus on the hand motions you’re using to whip this cream into shape. We recommend sturring in a circular motion using your wrist for two to four minutes straight. (Or skip the hassle and embrace a hand mixer.)

All that mixing sounds like a workout, but trust us — it’s worth it.
